Finally got some good weather for a couple of days with no wind here in Stirling, Scotland to get on with building the Optibeam OBW 10-5. My initial correspondence with Thomas DF2BO at Optibeam was excellent before I decided to purchase the antenna.

From my order at Martin Lynch it took approx 6 days to arrive here.
The OBW 10-5 is a pretty straight forward antenna to build although if you come up against any problems Thomas DF2BO is only an e-mail away with an excellent service.

The longest time spent was tensioning up the antenna till you were satisfied it looked OK not so easy at ground level.

At ground level we fitted it to the stub mast and two of us lifted the whole antenna into the rotator cage this was really the hardest part for us as we were working to quite a small area with obstacles garden shed etc.

However once on the tower an initial check to see the antenna was sitting well, and a check with the antenna analyser the swr was really the same as the spec in the manual.

My first contact with 100w was with Bogdan VE3BDM, subsequently I have worked into Brunei V8, West Malaysia 9M2 all on 20m. So now I'll spend a bit more time operating to put the antenna through its paces but first impressions are really excellent.

First impression - good and strong Icom box for shipping (double boxes). Very nice piece of equipment, very beautiful build. LCD screen is nice and clear. Control buttons and dial are solid and not too small. Radio is very logical to use and easy for Icom "PRO" users. First receiver tests are very positive and the use of the filters aswell. Audio by airphones is very smooth. Fan is almost not audible.

The used IC 7400 is arrived two hours ago and I'm testing it in Rx and in TX .
It seems to be an excellent rig and it is in mint condition. The autotuner is speedy and effective. Wonderful receiver and notch filter very effective.

I've just tuned (but with few Watts) on 1,835 my CP6 Diamond vertical antenna ( with 25 mtrs of RG-58).
Tune immediate. Incredible! May be I am a lucky man?

I've just been to the local parcel post office to pick up the tuner, I was amazed to see how quick the tuner has taken to arrive here in Gibraltar, so I will finish connecting it up as it's already here in my shack.
As for the Comet tuner itself, ( CAT-300 ) looks like excellent quality materials have been used on it's construction, & it's very well made, compared to other cheaper brands available on the world wide market.

Therefore I would highly recommend this tuner, to those radio hams who in turn prefer a manual tuner, for all bands including 50 MHz.
Glad to know you also supply Comet products, which I now belive they are excellent.

Super service totally unbeatable. I have received the FT-950 and 2 leads, the cat lead and linear amp lead, this radio is totally superb, combined with cat software, (I use ham radio deluxe). This is a world top class receiver and the various filters make it stand out in a pile up, where others would certainly wave the white flag! I just wanted to email to thank you for the recent delivery (all arrived in perfect order). I am especially delighted with the miniVNA.

What an outstanding tool, and such good value. Since it arrived a few days ago I've been able to improve our SteppIR 3 elelement yagi element settings, which is nearly impossible to do properly with an SWR meter alone.

I've also studied the antenna interactions on the same tower as the SteppIR, and found a length of coax which had some water ingress (without removing any plugs). It is definitely the most useful and insightful tool in the shack!, and a doddle to use. Thanks!
